Photos From Michigan – Mackinac Island

I think this is going to be our last post from Michigan.  Today we ventured about an hour south to Mackinac Island.  We caught the 10:30 ferry to the island.  We didn’t realize it until we were on board that we were on the only ferry of the day that would tour out to the Mackinaw Bridge before dropping us off on the island.DSCN1189

We got some great pictures of the bridge.DSCN1181 DSCN1182 DSCN1184

This was taken from directly under the bridge.  You can actually see two cars going across if you look carefully.DSCN1185 DSCN1187

A little history about the island . . . the island was home to Native Americans dating back to 900AD.  It was first discovered by a French explorer  in 1634.  The French took control of the island after the French and Indian War.  They built a fort that is still standing in 1780 .  The island has been under the control of the US Government since 1895.  The island can only be reached by ferry and no motorized vehicles are allowed on the island.   The only way to get around is on foot, bike or horse drawn carriage.

Hmm it seems like your website ate my first
comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I'll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog.

I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I'm still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips for rookie blog writers? I'd certainly appreciate it.
