Warning: Today begins a week long series of birthday posts.
Today Jeff's grandmother is celeberating her 80th birthday. Since Jeff had to leave early this morning to go out of town we got together last night with my grandparents and sister to grill out steaks and celebrate.
Granny had requested a chocolate cake. I thought it would be fun to making something different so I did a Google search for the "best chocolate cake recipe". This same recipe showed up a few times so I figured it must be good. Grant always likes to assist in the kitchen so on Saturday afternoon we printed the recipe and got busy making the layers.
First we gathered all the ingredients. (Shhh!!! Don't tell Granny it's not completely from scratch. She would be so disappointed in me.)
Grant measured all the ingredients by himself and added them to the mixing bowl.
He really liked cracking the 4 eggs. By the time he got to the last egg he was doing it like a pro.
He even helped me clean-up!!!
Here is our finished product. I got up and iced iy Sunday morning. I never knew it was so hard to cover a chocolate cake with white icing. It looks more like cookies & cream.
We didn't have 80 candles so Jeff thought it would be funny to put the numbers "6" & "0" on (which we had in the cabinet) and 20 regular candles. Granny had a hard time blowing them out so Grant had to help.
